In August 2022, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Secretary of State for the Department for International Trade, announced the launch of the new Developing Country Trading Scheme to “harness the power of trade to help developing countries grow and prosper”.
This scheme will replace the current Generalised Scheme of Preference and will be the most generous preference schemes in the world, applying to 65 countries and will provide lower or nil rates of duties and will simplify the rules of origin requirements to import those products into the United Kingdom. The scheme aims to support developing countries diversify their exports and grow their economies whilst giving British businesses access to lower prices and more choices.
