Avoid Delays: Declare Weight in Kilograms on Your Certificate of Origin

When completing a UK Certificate of Origin, it is essential that the weight stated in Box 7 is provided in kilograms (Kg)

We have recently seen applications submitted with weight entered in pounds (lbs). Unfortunately, this cannot be accepted and will result in the document being rejected for amendment, causing avoidable delays.

Why Does This Matter?

The Certificate of Origin is an internationally recognised trade document, and consistency in units of measurement is important for customs authorities in the importing country. Kilograms (Kg) are the standard unit required for certification purposes in the UK.

Providing weight in an alternative unit, such as pounds, may lead to:

  • Rejection of the application

  • Delays in document processing

  • Potential issues at customs clearance

If your weight is originally recorded in pounds, you must convert it into kilograms before submission. Please also ensure that supporting documents (such as invoices or packing lists) clearly show the converted weight, so that this can be verified during processing.

Taking a moment to check this detail will help ensure your Certificate of Origin is processed quickly and without issue.
