On 1 June 2026, the UK, EU, Norway, and Switzerland will officially launch digital ATA Carnets, marking a major step in modernising international trade. During the transition, paper and digital Carnets will coexist until all customs authorities are ready to handle digital formats. This initiative is led globally by the ICC and WCO, with UKNATACO and HMRC at the forefront in the UK.
Why It Matters?
Digital Carnets will help businesses:
Save time and reduce administrative burden
Lower risk of errors and delays
Cut costs and support sustainable operations
How It Works?
Paper-only destinations: Paper Carnet issued, transactions as today
Digital-only destinations: Digital Carnet issued, transactions via QR code using ATA Carnet App (ACA) or Desktop App (ACD)
Mixed destinations: Both paper and digital Carnets issued, front cover clearly identifies which to use where
Workshop at the Chamber
To help businesses navigate this transition, we are hosting a Digital ATA Carnet Workshop at the Chamber. Learn how to prepare, use digital Carnets, and manage mixed itineraries.
