When the Italian retailer CONAD commissioned tens of thousands of handcrafted bags and accessories from Kenya, the ripple effects were transformative. Across seven counties, women artisans found new income, new confidence, and new possibilities.
In Corner Baridi, Kajiado County, Maasai beader and community leader Jane Naisimo hosts women from her artisan group as they gather to bead, talk, and fulfil international orders. With support from Tujikuze—a social enterprise backed by the Ethical Fashion Initiative and the International Trade Centre (ITC)—these artisans have upgraded their skills, strengthened quality control, and embraced designs that command global attention. Their work now funds initiatives against gender-based violence, proving that craft can drive both economic and social impact.
This story is just one example of the opportunity that arises when Kenyan women entrepreneurs are connected to international buyers.
Earlier this year, in partnership with ITC SheTrades and the International Trade Centre, we delivered the SheTrades Commonwealth+ Programme—a mission that generated an estimated £1,125,000 in business prospects and leads. The demand, the talent, and the momentum are real.
And we’re not stopping there.
This December, the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce with ITC are bringing 15 Kenyan women-led businesses in fresh agrifood, processed agrifood, and coffee to the United Kingdom. We will be hosting a dedicated B2B engagement day on 4th December 2025, featuring curated business meetings, sector-specific site visits, and high-value networking.
