FAQ: Can you use UK COOs for USA?

Updated: Jul 15

ree

We at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce are aware that many of you have questions about trading with the USA following the introduction of tariffs.

It is important to note that the US Customs and Border Protection agency does not recognise Certificates of Origin issued by UK Chambers as valid proof of origin for goods entering the United States. Exporters should be aware of this limitation when preparing documentation.

If you still wish to proceed with a Certificate of Origin issued by the Chamber, please be advised that we can include the following statement in the remarks box:

“The origin of these goods was determined using the non-preferential rules of origin published by US Customs and Border Protection.”

However, before this declaration can be added, the Chamber must verify that the goods comply with the relevant US rules of origin.
